Dear Friends,

We’ve had so many of you emailing us and messaging us on social media asking questions about the film. First of all, thank you very much for your interest in sharing 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture with your family, friends, churches, educational institutions and campus ministries.

We here at 1946 would like to address some of the questions that you all have sent to us.

FAQs

How do I view the film?

Currently, 1946 is NOT available for viewing outside of the film festival circuit. In November of 2022 during DOC NYC there was a period where streaming of the film was available in the United States but that has closed now that the festival is over.
BUT - We have in-person and streaming opportunities available, with more to come as we make our way playing festivals so keep an eye on this space for FESTIVAL TICKET INFO and for all screenings in North American and around the world.

How do I show the film to my church, college group, etc.?

1946 is working on domestic and global distribution through a streaming service to make the film widely available. We are not there yet. Since we are not a funded film, there are multiple steps we must take to get to that point and that includes the festival circuit we are currently on. We will let you know when we launch our Impact Campaign and when this is possible.

When will the film be made available?

At this time, we do not know. We do know, however, that our following is growing by the day. We have 200k followers on Tiktok alone, we’ve had amazing feedback from audiences.
We won accolades at DoC NYC (AUDIENCE AWARD), The Palms Springs International Film Festival (BEST OF FEST) and Cleveland International Film Festival (Dream Maker / Roxanne T. Mueller Audience Choice Award for Best Film) which are all good signs pointing forward and will help us with our distribution goals, domestically and abroad. We had our International/UK Premiere in March of 2023 at BFI FLARE: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival and we have more international screenings on the horizon.

How can I buy tickets to attend these festivals?

Each festival is different, they have different requirements, different methodologies on how they operate ticket sales, essentially one would have to access their information online or contact their box office to find out when and how these tickets will be made available to the general public. We have no control over this.

Now that the film is done, how can we help support you going forward?

Thank you for this question. While the film is done, there is still a need for support. Current fees include: insurance, festival submission/travel, PR and marketing, operations, and impact campaign. We are not a funded film, meaning, we have no large industry behind us helping us pay bills. Each donation through Women Make Movies, through our Merch Store, and through our GoFundMe adds money into our coffers to keep the work moving forward. If you would like to be a part of advancing the cause in that regard, please go to our website OR directly donate through Women Make Movies/1946 (fiscal sponsor) / The 1946 Merch Store or GoFundMe!

How do I find out when this movie will be made available?

The best thing you can do is sign up for our newsletter. Our newsletters include updates on the film, information on our Impact Campaign, and calls to action.
Other ways to keep up-to-date include, visiting our website and following our social media handles @1946themovie on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
